Young Guns

Clearly the loss of three legends of the game will leave a hole to fill. But, there are a group of young players ready to take that step.

Led by Derek Carr and Carson Wentz, there is supreme talent in the league.

Wentz and Carr, along with Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, Dak, Goff and Desean Watson, are the future of the league. These guys still have things to prove, especially in the postseason.

But, they have the tools necessary to be Super Bowl winning quarterbacks and stars in the eyes of the nation.

Derek Carr looks to be the pick of this exciting bunch. The Fresno State product has immense physical and mental talent and looks to be the next star quarterback in waiting.

Carr was on track for an MVP type year in 2016 before a season ending injury forced him out and rendered the Raiders helpless in the playoffs. His absence in that loss to the Texans showed just how valuable he is.

His stellar play in 2016 included nearly 4000 yards passing in only 15 games, a 63.8% completion rate and a fantastic 28 TD passes to only 6 picks. Carr led the Raiders to their first playoff berth in 14 years and has already made two pro bowls in his three full NFL seasons.

His ability to stand in the pocket and make precise throws, and extend plays with his legs, give him a Rodgers-esque quality.

The same can be said for Wentz, who’s athleticism and arm strength are shining in Philadelphia. The Eagles have started brightly in 2017 and Wentz has taken this team over. His leadership is outstanding and his play making ability is eye-catching.

Though Prescott and Goff have been good in their own right, Wentz looks to be the star of the 2016 draft class.

Goff struggled in 2016 but under new head coach Sean McVay he has shone.

The Rams have added some weapons out wide and this has given their quarterback a huge boost. His rhythm and accuracy are much improved and the number one overall pick is showing his talent in abundance in 2017.

Dak excelled beyond any belief in 2016 and hasn’t taken a step back so far this season. The Cowboys have found their new franchise leader and the former fourth round pick is certainly capable of leading them to a much desired championship.

He may not have the arm talent of his peers, but his intelligence on the field and outstanding intangibles make him a special player.

This group of guys are ready to take the lead once the old guard departs. They are popular, talented and certainly capable of delivering the same kind of high caliber football.
