2018 NFL Mock Draft: Week 12 Update
By Jon Dove
17. Washington Redskins- Derwin James, S, Florida State
Derwin James has been a little slow to get back to full strength after last year’s injury. However, this is an elite athlete who also features excellent instincts. He is a safety who can play in the box, in the slot and deep middle.
18. Dallas Cowboys- Dre’Mont Jones, DL, Ohio State
The Dallas Cowboys need to add more talent on defense if they want to play with more balance. Dre’Mont Jones is a versatile defender who can hold up against the run and make plays in the backfield. He’s a really disruptive player who will make life miserable for opposing offenses.
19. Detroit Lions- Sam Hubbard, Edge, Ohio State
The Detroit Lions have gotten a taste what life could be like without Ziggy Ansah due to his injuries. It’s been tough sledding in the pass rush department with him out of the lineup. Even with Ansah, Detroit could use someone else to generate pressure off the edge like Sam Hubbard.
20. Seattle Seahawks- Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
Adding Duane Brown was a great start to rebuilding the offensive line. However, the unit is far from settled which makes Quenton Nelson a strong possibility at this pick. Nelson’s ability to open running lanes would help Seattle reestablish their ground attack.
21. Los Angeles Chargers- Tarvarus McFadden, CB, Florida State
The Chargers are making a late run at the playoffs in large part because of their improved defensive play. However, they could use more help at the cornerback spot with Jason Verrett constantly dealing with injuries.
22. Tennessee Titans- Clelin Ferrell, Edge, Clemson
The Titans have done a good job adding talent on the defensive side of the ball, but need to beef up their pass rush. Clelin Ferrell is plays with a high motor and features the speed to generate pressure off the edge.
23. Atlanta Falcons- Vita Vea, DT, Washington
Vita Vea is a massive individual who is a difference maker along the defensive line. His size helps him occupy blockers while his surprising quickness helps him penetrate the pocket. Atlanta needs some beef along the defensive line—especially if Dontari Poe leaves via free agency.
24. Carolina Panthers- Deon Cain, WR, Clemson
Carolina’s decision to trade Kelvin Benjamin was a bit surprising, but in the end it might work out. Benjamin and Devin Funchess had a similar style which didn’t do much to open the Panthers passing game. Deon Cain’s speed will help them stretch the field and draw defenders out of the box.
