The NFL Coaching News is coming fast and furious especially when you look at the defensive coordinator position.

This week we have seen several open defensive coordinator positions filled. The NFL Coaching news has been ramping up as teams push to fill open spots on their staff. So far the biggest storylines here are defensive coordinators returning to their posts.

The Los Angeles Chargers put the final touches on a deal to bring Gus Bradley back in the fold. He did a great job with the defense last year and bringing him back adds some continuity. With the likes of Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram and Casey Hayward the Charger have a strong talent base.

There are reports that the Chicago Bears will be able to keep Vic Fangio in place as their defensive coordinator. Fangio was getting looks from multiple teams including the division rival Green Bay Packers.

This is an interesting situation because the Bears are making a change at the Head Coaching position. John Fox has been replaced with Matt Nagy and with a new head coach there are typically changes at the coordinator spots.

Chicago obviously thought this to be a unique situation where they had a chance to keep an elite defensive coach. Fangio did great things with Chicago’s defense and always seems to find a way to make the most of the talent he is provided.

The one team that has added a new defensive coordinator is the Green Bay Packers. Mike Pettine has been out of the league since being fired by the Cleveland Browns, but prior to that job he was considered a top-flight defensive coach.

Pettine is an aggressive play caller who runs a 3-4 system. He spent most of his time working under Rex Ryan until he grabbed the Browns head coaching job.
