Can the Tennessee Titans hang with the New England Patriots?
By Jon Dove
The Tennessee Titans face a major challenge trying to keep pace with the New England Patriots.
Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans head to Foxboro this weekend to challenge the New England Patriots. They are going to need to execute a perfect game plan in order to pull of what would be a major upset.
There is little doubt that the Titans plan on feeding the rock to running back Derrick Henry. His physical running style has the capability to wear down a defense and control the clock. This is obviously one way for the Titans to keep Tom Brady off the field.
Henry is going to be the workhorse as DeMarco Murray is expected to miss the game. However, another key to the game will be Mariota’s ability to make a few plays through the air.
Mariota hasn’t had a great year and it can be argued that the Titans reached the playoffs in-spite of his play. He has really struggled with turnovers this year and that’s something that can’t happen against the Patriots.
New England knows how to take advantage of turnovers and could make this a blow out if the Titans can’t protect the ball.
Tennessee’s secondary is also going to be on notice. They allowed the 7th most passing yards this year and now face the legendary Tom Brady. It doesn’t help that this game is in Foxboro where the crowd will make things more difficult for the Titans.
The Titans are likely looking to make their ground attack the focal point of their game plan. If they can control the clock and move the chains with Henry they will have a chance. However, they may also need the Patriots to make an uncharacteristic mistake.
