NFL Playoffs: Minnesota Vikings loss not on Case Keenum
By Jon Dove
The Minnesota Vikings were absolutely dominated by the Philadelphia Eagles, but Case Keenum doesn’t deserve most of the blame.
Case Keenum didn’t have a great game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he was taken out of his comfort zone very early in the game. Philadelphia’s ability to generate pressure created turnovers which give the Eagles easy scoring opportunities.
The Eagles offense had their way with the top-rated Vikings defense. There was more pressure put on Keenum’s shoulders with every point surrendered by the Vikings. It forced the Vikings to adjust their game plan and play catchup.
This was a major adjustment for the Vikings, as their defense’s success meant that they were rarely forced to play from behind.
Philadelphia came into the game with a great game plan. They were aggressive on offense which wasn’t expected with Nick Foles under center. From their 1st possession it was obvious they were playing with confidence.

Foles had a sensational performance, but it was a well rounded game by the whole team. The running game was very effective with the offensive line routinely generating a push off the line. This allowed the Eagles to control the clock and create space for the big play.
The long-term implications of this game will be interesting to watch. Keenum’s play this season should have earned him a starting job in the league. The question is if it will be with the Vikings or else where.
Minnesota heads into the offseason needing to decide if they want to move forward with Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater or Sam Bradford. This won’t be an easy decision, but Keenum’s performance in the NFC Championship game shouldn’t count against him being the guy.
