2018 NFL Draft: Top 5 Offensive Prospects
By Jon Dove
Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Rosen is a smooth and confident quarterback prospect. He has a quiet presence in the pocket and looks like a natural playing the position. This is a quarterback who has all the physical tools needed to be an elite quarterback in the NFL.
However, it’s his feel for the position and instincts that make him special. He routinely throws the ball with anticipation and is capable of working through his progressions. This is an area of many young quarterbacks’ game that is lacking.
Rosen is the most NFL-ready quarterback in this draft. He has experience working in pro-style concepts, operating in a huddle and working from under center. These may seem like minor things but there are a lot of quarterback prospects without these skills.
The questions with Rosen come with his off-field decision making and durability. There are plenty of stories that speak to how Rosen rubs people the wrong way. It’s hard to get a true picture on these type of situations.
Personally, I don’t have access to Rosen or the people closest to him. Finding the true story behind the rumors will be a tough for even the high-priced NFL front offices. It will be easier for everyone to get a feel for his medical history. The testing at the combine will show whether or not there are any long-term concerns.
If you make a decision solely based on the tape, Rosen is the top quarterback in this class and the one most likely to succeed.
