The NFL Pro Bowl Still isn’t Interesting
By Jon Dove
The NFL Pro Bowl is today and I still can’t bring myself to carve out time to watch the game.
I can’t remember the last time or if I ever actually watched the NFL Pro Bowl. The game itself strikes me as a way for the league to earn a few extra dollars from their sponsors. There isn’t much actual football being played and the outcome means nothing.
Obviously, the NFL is very aware that many fans feel the Pro Bowl is hard to watch. They have made efforts to make the game more entertaining. The actual ratings for the game continue to be solid when compared to other programs in the same time slot.
One of the main reasons I avoid watching the game has to do with how much football I watch during the rest of the year. Sometimes it feels like being a sports fan is a part-time job that requires commitment and time.
The actual football season lasts for months with free agency, the draft and training camps soon to follow. There really isn’t an offseason for the dedicated NFL Fan which is why I gladly skip watching a game that means nothing.
This Sunday will serve as an off-day for me where I might expand my horizons by taking in a play or maybe just take a long afternoon nap. I’ll let others enjoy the nonsense football that is played during this meaningless All-Star game.
However, the NFL doesn’t have to worry because they will have my attention again the very next Sunday for the always entertaining Super Bowl.
