The New York Jets sign Sam Bradford and draft Sam Darnold

It looks like the Jets could be the team to benefit the most from the Alex Smith trade. They are likely to jump into the Kirk Cousins bidding with their nearly $80 million in cap space. However, the Browns have the cash and possibility sense of desperation to out bid anyone for Cousins.

A sound attack for the Jets would be to then sign a veteran like Sam Bradford and use the No. 6 pick to draft Sam Darnold.

This would give the team a chance to both build off last year’s success and towards the future. Bradford has proven himself to be a very capable quarterback when healthy. Of course, it’s a long shot to expect him to be on the field for all 16 games.

Darnold is still in the running to be the first quarterback selected in the draft. However, his stock has fallen some since the start of the year. It’s very possible that he’s on the board when the Jets pick at No. 6 overall.

Adding a high upside prospect like Darnold would give the Jets a sense of direction. It would allow them to also move on from the failed Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty experiments.
