NFL Free Agency: Predicting the Quarterback Carousel

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign Josh McCown
Blake Bortles did enough in the playoffs to earn another year as the Jacksonville Jaguars starter. He showed a lot of growth throughout the year and may still be able to be an above average NFL quarterback.
However, Jacksonville can’t head into next season with making an addition at the position. This is a Super Bowl caliber roster with a shot to repeat this year’s success. Bortles is still the team’s weak link and could very well suffer another setback.
Josh McCown has shown over the past few years that he can be a winning quarterback in the NFL. He is also a great locker room guy and wouldn’t cause waves if brought in as a backup.
The Jaguars could head into the year fully backing Bortles as the team’s starter, but have a reliable option in McCown on the bench. Signing McCown would also help the team’s salary cap situation which is heading into some problems down the road.
Jacksonville has the assets and roster construction to make an aggressive move in the draft. They have very little team needs and could deal multiple draft picks if they see a prospect ready to unseat Bortles. It’s not out of the question for them to jump up into the mix for someone like Baker Mayfield.
