The Denver Broncos struggled on defense in 2017, but much of that can be accounted to the dreadful play on offense. With erratic contributions at both quarterback and running back, Denver’s offense failed to provide its defense with time to rest or ideal starting field position.
Saquon Barkley was my original choice for the Broncos, but with him coming off the board at No. 2, it would behoove John Elway to take a chance on Josh Rosen.
Rosen’s commitment to the sport has been questioned, but he’s as polished a player as you’ll find at his age. Not only is he the prototype in terms of size, mobility, and arm strength, but the accuracy on his throws may put him in a tier above his peers.
Rosen may never develop into a superstar quarterback, but if Denver is looking to win now, he’s the rookie who gives them the best chance of doing so.
In the long-term, Rosen has the tools to become the ideal postseason quarterback. This is all based on projections and the expectation that his work ethic will be sufficient, but he can take care of the ball and alleviate pressure from the defense by simply moving the chains.
With Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders at his disposal, Rosen would have one of the most manageable transitions of any quarterback in this draft class.
