Louisville’s Geron Christian is an underrated 2018 NFL Draft offensive tackle prospect.

Geron Christian is a sound offensive tackle prospect who isn’t getting nearly enough love as the other 2018 NFL Draft offensive linemen. He jumps off the screen as Lamar Jackson’s top pass protector and tough competitor.

Louisville routinely swapped their offensive tackles meaning that Christian received a ton of experience on at both left and right tackle. This unique plan of attack meant that Christian was forced to consistently deal with different angles.

There is a big difference between lining up at left and right tackle. The feel and angles are opposite with some offensive linemen unable to make the adjustment. It’s amazing that Christian was able to maintain his success while making the change on a play-by-play basis.

In pass protection, Christian keeps a wide base and balanced stance. He shows the ability to quickly shuffle his feet and protect the edge. His wide base helps him anchor and reset after contact. Christian also does a good job latching to the rusher and controlling the action.

He is a solid athlete who can sit into his stance and change direction. His overall size and build fits the mold for an NFL offensive tackle.

Louisville’s offensive attack is a bit of a negative when evaluating Christian. He didn’t get many opportunities to protect for longer stretches. A lot of their plays were of the quick hitting version that limited the protection time.

Christian also benefited from the presence of the ultra-athletic Lamar Jackson. Opposing defenses typically looked to keep Jackson in the pocket and hold the edge players from aggressively rushing the quarterback.

Louisville also didn’t operate a traditional running attack which is something Christian will need to adjust to at the next level.

However, Christian shows the base skill set needed to be a starting left tackle in the NFL. His combination of length, athleticism and balance make him a strong candidate to be an immediate contributor.
