2018 NFL Draft: Christian Campbell Scouting Report
By Jon Dove
Penn State’s Christian Campbell has used the 2018 NFL Draft process to raise his overall stock.
Christian Campbell has used events like the Senior Bowl to help his 2018 NFL Draft position. His showing at that even turned some heads and showed that he is a better prospect than most realize. However, that doesn’t mean he’s inline to be a day-one selection.
Campbell brings good length and quickness to the field. His frame is on the slight side, but his long arms help him generate pass breakups.
He is a good athlete with the speed needed to turn and run with receivers. His speed also translates to recovery and closing on the ball. Campbell keeps good balance in his drops which allows him to use his click and close ability.
His ball skills could use some work as he only registered 3 interceptions during his career. One reason he has such low interception totals is that he struggles in contested situations. Campbell’s thin frame makes it tough for him to play a physical brand of football.

Too often, he is unable to fight through contact and attack the football. This also shows up on the underneath routes where some contact knocks him to the ground.
Campbell might not be a physical player, but he is willing to get involved in the running game. It will be important for him to add some more bulk in order to improve this part of his game.
There are times where Campbell provides too much room to the receiver. He needs to show better situational understanding. It becomes a problem when the offense only needs 5 yards for a 1st down and Campbell lines up 10-yards off the ball.
Overall, Campbell is an interesting prospect with starter potential. His combination of length and speed are what makes him a candidate to develop.
