Virginia Tech’s Wyatt Teller is a physical 2018 NFL Draft guard prospect who flashes the ability to develop into a starter.

Wyatt Teller is a hard worker who is always working to gain proper position. His physical style of play makes him a candidate to hear his name called in the middle rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has a chance to earn starting reps early in his career.

Teller is committed to gaining inside hands and has the upper body strength to latch to the defender. His inside hand placement allows him to control the action and seal defenders from the play. The combination of his hand usage and nastiness make Teller a strong run blocker.

He is also someone who is keeps a low pad level and wide base. This balance helps Teller generate a push and open running lanes.

The one concern in his area is that Teller doesn’t show great arm length. He also can get overpowered at times by bigger defensive tackles. Teller will need to get a little stronger in order to increase his effectiveness.

In the passing game, Teller shows the ability to mirror the rusher. He again keeps a wide base and his head on a swivel. His shorter arms can allow defenders to get into his frame, but Teller fits for positioning.

He is an average overall athlete that can throw blocks on the move. However, he shouldn’t be counted among the more agile interior lineman in the draft class.

Overall, Teller has the technique and skill set needed to be a starter in the NFL. He may need some time to improve his play strength, but the base is present for him to make an impact.
