The Los Angeles Chargers have to consider selecting Philip Rivers’ heir apparent, but Luke Falk and Mason Rudolph would be reaches here. Rivers is still playing at a high level, which makes it an entirely different situation from the one Arizona finds itself in.

Instead of reaching for a quarterback, the Chargers opt to protect their own by investing in the upside of versatile offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn.

Orlando Brown was considered here, but the Chargers’ biggest weakness is its abhorrent guard play. That makes Wynn the preferred pick, as he has the athleticism and fight to be an undersized right tackle, but projects to be at his best at either center or guard.

For a San Diego team that struggled to create much room for Melvin Gordon to navigate, adding a player with experience in a run-heavy offense would be a wise decision.

As for Rivers, he’d receive more time in the pocket, as well. Wynn has the athleticism to get to the second level as a run blocker, but he also has strong hands and the nastiness to finish his blocks in pass protection against tackles and ends alike.

Whether he plays guard, tackle, or center, Wynn should be successful in the NFL off of his blend of work ethic, motor, and athleticism alone.
