2018 NFL Mock Draft: Impact of recent trades and signings
The Atlanta Falcons have options here, including a move to solidify the defensive line in the event that Dontari Poe walks in free agency. That certainly sounds appealing, as there’s talent worth looking at the defensive tackle position.
I was inclined to believe that the obvious wasn’t the right decision, but in reality: If Taven Bryan is available at No. 26 overall, he should be the selection.
Bryan stands at 6’5″ and 291 pounds with the type of athleticism that separates the great from the good. He dominated the Scouting Combine, and when one watches the game film, it’s clear that he’s every bit as explosive as he tested.
Alongside Grady Jarrett, Bryan would have a chance to establish himself as one of the best defensive players to emerge from this draft class.
The concerns with Bryan pertain to how fundamentally solid he is. Atlanta has proven willing to take a gamble on upside, however, and could experience similar results with Bryan as it did All-Pro edge defender and 2015 first-round draft pick Vic Beasley.
With Bryan’s size, athleticism, and versatility, the Falcons would give Dan Quinn a defense that he can mold into something special with this selection.
