Jaire Alexander. 32. player. 54. . Cornerback. Louisville Cardinals

The Philadelphia Eagles are equipped to repeat as Super Bowl champions, but they must overcome the loss of a critical contributor. Veteran cornerback Patrick Robinson will sign with the New Orleans Saints, which strips Philadelphia of one of its key strengths.

Thankfully, the Eagles can address this concern by selecting one of the top cornerbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft: Louisville Cardinals standout Jaire Alexander.

Alexander has a thin frame and questionable fundamentals as far as footwork and his base are concerned. What’s undeniable, however, is that the former Louisville star is one of the best athletes at the cornerback position.

I’m hesitant to embrace him as a first-round lock, but for a Philadelphia team that needs to replace Robinson, Alexander could make sense.

Alexander ran a sub-4.4 40 and has the combination of timing and agility that should round his NFL value into form. He will need to add more of a power element to his game, but if he can get physical at the line of scrimmage, he can put it all together.

Alexander is more about upside than what’s been established, but his instincts are impressive and his closing speed is downright unfair.
