Strength: Physical Gifts

It doesn’t take very long to see why it is that Josh Allen has piqued the interest of NFL coaches and general managers. From a purely physical perspective, Allen is the type of player whom scouts would design in a lab if they could.

If a franchise is in the business of developing a player over time, then Allen has the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this draft class.

Allen has the size, strength, hand size, and arm length that checks every box for the prototypical quarterback. That may sound unimportant in some regards, but there’s a reason why so much stock is placed in these measurements.

Allen has the physical tools to stand tall in the pocket, throw without impediment, shrug off incoming linemen, and protect the ball when he’s hit.

We’ll discuss Allen’s foot speed, but what’s most impressive touches back upon a key word: Length. Allen has long arms and a massive stride, which helps him with his drop backs from under center and his ability to throw under pressure—a weakness, but also a potential strength.

There are players who have more polished fundamentals than Allen, but not a single quarterback in this class is as physically intriguing.
