Weakness: Decision Making

A quarterback who can put the ball wherever it needs to be is one who will have a long career in the NFL. A quarterback who has the raw ability to launch the ball all over the field is one who will captivate scouts, coaches, and general managers alike.

A quarterback who struggled to put those tools together at any point of their collegiate career, however, is one whose decision making will be questioned.

It’s possible that Wyoming’s coaching staff failed to help Allen improve upon the issues that he was hoping to address. Regardless of whom you place the blame on, however, the reality is that the issues exist.

One of the primary reasons for Allen’s low completion percentage and NFL concerns is the fact that he consistently struggles to complete throws under pressure.

According to Pro Football Focus, Allen had passer ratings of 102.6 when kept clean and 95.7 when he wasn’t blitzed in 2017. Those figures fell to 57.9 when pressured and 73.4 when blitzed, which speaks to his inability to make the right decisions under pressure.

In the video at the top of this slide, one can see Allen stiff arm an incoming tackler—the good—and then force a throw downfield that led to an interception—the bad.

Throw. It. Away.
