Strength: Playing Outside The Pocket

One of the primary issues that quarterbacks encounter is an inability to make plays when forced out of the pocket. Even the best of offensive lines let the occasional pass rusher through, which means a quarterback must be able to evade the pass rush.

Lauletta has a tendency to force his throws, but he also has the ability to roll out and make accurate throws while on the move.

Lauletta may not be as explosive as Lamar Jackson, but he’s an underrated athlete. He’s one of the most agile quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft, as well as a capable scrambler who can pick up yardage with his legs when a play breaks down.

Quarterbacks don’t need the ability to run for first downs, but those who can combine quality speed with agility tend to be able to make a well-rounded impact.

That helps him greatly in this regard, as he’s capable of completing accurate throws while on the run. Richmond’s system included a number of plays that began with rollouts, which also helped Lauletta prepare for scenarios where he’s flushed out of the pocket.

Lauletta not only has the size to shed a tackler, but the agility to roll out and the football IQ to set his feet and put a throw on the money.
