The New York Giants can draft a quarterback or a running back, but the harsh reality is that neither player will have much time to operate or process. The receiving corps is dynamic, but the Giants’ offensive line ranks amongst the worst in the NFL.

Thus, if the Giants are looking to build a solid infrastructure, then one of the top priorities should be solidifying the interior of the offensive line.

While Saquon Barkley has the narrow edge on my big board, there’s a solid case to make that Quenton Nelson is the best player in the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s a dominant force at guard, with the ability to physically overwhelm players with an aggressive style of blocking.

Nelson also excels at allowing linemen to come to him, with the fundamental polish and overwhelming strength to handle bull rushes and finesse moves alike.

For the Giants, adding Nelson to the offensive line would mean securing a second anchor along the unit. Nate Solder can help protect a quarterback’s blindside, but establishing the run will require vastly improved play along the interior.

Considering Justin Pugh signed with the Arizona Cardinals and Weston Richburg joined the San Francisco 49ers, the Giants desperately need an interior anchor. Nelson can be that player.
