If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an opportunity to select Saquon Barkley at No. 7 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, it’s safe to assume they will. Tampa Bay has shown no hesitation to shell out big money to offensive players at skill positions.

With a glaring need for improved play at running back, the mere prospect of adding Barkley to the offense should have Buccaneers fans salivating.

The likelihood of Barkley sliding to No. 7 is slim, but that doesn’t mean it’s an impossibility. It’s beyond plausible that quarterbacks will be selected at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 overall, and the Buffalo Bills are widely expected to trade up for a field general of their own.

That could lead to four of the first six picks being quarterbacks, which would leave Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Quenton Nelson to compete for the other two.

Add the possibility of the Denver Broncos selecting a franchise quarterback to develop behind Case Keenum and Barkley sliding to No. 7 becomes even more conceivably. It’s certainly not likely, but to say it’s an impossibility would be an exaggeration to an extreme degree.

If it happens, then adding the best runner and receiver at the running back position would be a highly appealing option for the Buccaneers.
