Strength: Short And Intermediate Accuracy

A player who can throw the deep ball will be appealing, but arm strength is only a part of the package. If a quarterback can’t put the ball where it needs to be, then they’re going to struggle to piece together a consistent run of success in the NFL.

Thankfully, one of the primary reasons Mike White has become a 2018 NFL Draft prospect is his ability to make accurate throws on short and intermediate routes.

The foundation of Western Kentucky’s offense was a combination of short and intermediate throws that trusted receivers to make plays after the catch. That isn’t entirely different from a pro style offense, albeit with the acknowledgement that White primarily played from the shotgun.

In a draft class that includes a vast number of quarterbacks who struggle to make the short and intermediate throws, White’s ability to do so should bode well for him.

It may also be worth noting that White completed 57 percent of his deep throws in 2016—when his offensive line was significantly more reliable. Even if that becomes an elusive strength in the NFL, his ability to work the short and intermediate games will at least work on a backup level.

Accurate quarterbacks tend to have long NFL careers, and White knows exactly what throws to make when the goal is to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers.
