The Dallas Cowboys entered the offseason looking to add an explosive element to their passing attack and have done so by adding Allen Hurns.

Allen Hurns had a solid run with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but his injury history coupled with their cap situation ended the relationship. This allowed the Dallas Cowboys to pounce on the young playmaker.

The Cowboys needed to add some speed and big-play ability to their passing attack. Hurns is someone who can make plays down the field.

He features a good combination of length and quickness. Hurns is someone who can win in contested situations as well as outpace defensive backs. He absolutely has the talent to be a major contributor, but will need to stay healthy in order to succeed.

Prior to signing Hurns, it looked like the Cowboys would need to use an early draft pick to add some talent to the wide receiver position. Their pick in the middle of the 1st round would’ve made sense for someone like Maryland’s D.J. Moore, LSU’s D.J. Chark or Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk.

They can now wait out the process and grab a receiver when the value makes the most sense. The middle rounds of the 2018  NFL Draft has several prospects who would make sense for the Cowboys.

Passing on a receiver in the 1st round also means that Dallas can fill other needs on the roster. They have several needs on the defensive side of the ball especially along the defensive line and in the secondary.

Dallas is in win-now mode which makes it more possible that they are willing to gamble that Hurns’ injury problems are a thing of the past.
