Memphis Tigers wide receiver Anthony Miller is a projected Day 2 prospect, but he could rise up draft boards due to one key adjective: Safe.

The 2018 NFL Draft has a borderline consensus No. 1 wide receiver, but it also has a considerable amount of depth. Some question if there’s a true superstar to be found at the position, but most agree that there are quality players to be found at the position.

One of the prospects whom NFL scouts, coaches, and general managers are beginning to target is Memphis Tigers wide receiver Anthony Miller.

Alabama Crimson Tide star Calvin Ridley has been pegged by a vast majority of evaluators as the No. 1 wide receiver in this draft class. Miller is one of the players who will be selected further down the board, however, and an encouraging word is beginning to surface pertaining to him: Safe.

According to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, there’s a growing belief around the NFL that Miller is one of the safer prospects at the wide receiver position.

"Alabama’s Calvin Ridley is widely considered the top wide receiver in this draft, with Maryland’s D.J. Moore starting to pick up steam with teams. However, I’ve spoken to clubs that feel Memphis’ Anthony Miller could be one of the safer prospects at the position."

One could debate how beneficial it truly is to be a safe prospect, but there’s no possible way to dispute how much the word can help stabilize a player’s draft stock.

Miller is a 5’11” and 190-pound playmaker who’s projected to be a second or early third-round draft pick. It’s possible that he could fall further, but the hype has steadily increased since the end of his explosive career at Memphis.

Miller finished his senior season with downright absurd production: 96 receptions, 1,462 receiving yards, 15.2 yards per reception, and 18 receiving touchdowns.

That followed a junior campaign during which he pulled in 95 receptions for 1,434 yards, 15.1 yards per reception, and 14 touchdowns.

Having established that he could still produce when a defense knew what was coming, Miller has earned the privilege of NFL Draft hype. Beyond the numbers, he’s a former walk-on whose effort is never questioned and whose athleticism should translate favorably.

If a team is looking for a slot receiver who can also line up outside the numbers, then Miller is a player worth knowing and evaluating.
