2018 NFL Draft: Mason Rudolph receiving first-round workouts
Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Mason Rudolph is garnering interest from a number of teams that are picking outside the top 10 of the 2018 NFL Draft.
The 2018 NFL Draft is about more than just one position, but it’s inevitable for the quarterbacks to emerge as the group garnering the most attention. While scouts and executives have been talking themselves into potential selections, there are players who are truly worth investing in.
One of the prospects who’s doing his best to convince a franchise to take a chance on him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft is Mason Rudolph.
Rudolph is a polarizing prospect due to his history as an Air Raid offense quarterback. He played in a system that not only enabled him to avoid playing under center, but simplified the game for him by asking him to go through fewer reads and progressions than an NFL field general.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, a number of teams with first-round draft picks are exploring whether or not Rudolph is worth developing.
In other words: A number of teams that will likely miss out on the top four quarterbacks are evaluating Rudolph as an option further down the board.
The New York Giants may or may not view Rudolph as an option at No. 2, but Dave Gettleman could target the Oklahoma State start at No. 34 overall. The other teams listed, however, are likely determining whether or not Rudolph would be worth a first-round selection.
The Buffalo Bills have options at No. 12 and No. 22 overall, while the New England Patriots have flexibility of their own at No. 23 and No. 31.
The other teams listed may be in the market for an heir apparent to a veteran quarterback or, in the case of the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 21, a potential upgrade.
The Los Angeles Chargers need an heir apparent to Philip Rivers at No. 17 overall. The New Orleans Saints will likely be aware of Drew Brees‘ mortality at No. 27 and the Pittsburgh Steelers will likely consider a long-term replacement to Ben Roethlisberger at No. 28.
It’s unclear if those teams walked away with a decision made, but it’s certainly worth noting that they’re at least somewhat interested in Rudolph.
