The Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Dez Bryant, but it doesn’t appear as though he’s ready to leave the NFC East.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of an offseason that should bring about a change of identity. The organization is preparing to move on from a number of players from the previous campaign, including former All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cowboys have released Bryant—a report that the player himself corroborated.

It’s unfortunate to see a player leave a team they wanted to continue playing for, but the show must go on for all parties involved.

Bryant spent eight seasons as one of the true faces of the Cowboys organization. He’s one of the most productive players in franchise history, but at 29 years of age, he’ll be tasked with finding a new home for his talents.

According to Mickey Spagnola of DallasCowboys.com, Bryant walked out of the Cowboys facility claiming that he’ll see Dallas twice a year.

For those unfamiliar with the format of an NFL schedule, that means Bryant will be signing with a team in the Cowboys’ division.

By design, the only teams that play one another more than once a year are those that share a division. Thus, Bryant’s options appear to be down to three teams: The New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins.

For what it’s worth, Bryant retweeted a post that implied he’d follow the route that would enable him to play the Cowboys twice per season.

Regardless of which of those three teams Bryant signs with, it would send shockwaves throughout the NFL.

Bryant has 73 career touchdowns receptions in eight seasons, which is the foundation for his appeal. He’s one of his generation’s greatest red zone targets, as he has the rare combination of size, strength, and physicality to fight for the most critical of plays.

Bryant’s production has declined to the point where he may no longer be a No. 1 possession receiver, but his ability to find the end zone is unquestioned.

The question is: Which team will Dez Bryant end up with next? Chances are, it will be an NFC East team.
