The No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2018 NFL Draft is a prospect whom many have described as vanilla. Mike McGlinchey doesn’t do anything spectacular, but he plays hard and seems to have the strong fundamentals that are expected of a Notre Dame lineman.

With experience protecting for quarterbacks who like to run, McGlinchey has developed the versatility to justify being the first offensive tackle off the board.

McGlinchey is a 6’8″ Goliath of an offensive lineman whose size alone gives him a chance to be successful. He’s also a smooth athlete who has no trouble shuffling his feet or getting to the next level in a run-blocking scheme.

With solid footwork and excellent posture in pass protection, McGlinchey brings all of those physical tools together in a more than ideal manner.

Beyond the physical tools, McGlinchey is a hard worker whose motor runs high on the field. He can be trusted to show up as far as effort is concerned, and was regarded at Notre Dame as something of a leader for the offense.

McGlinchey could come off the board earlier than expected due to his position, but wherever he goes, he should at least be a starting-caliber player.
