The Denver Broncos play it smart and select Bradley Chubb
By Jon Dove
The Denver Broncos didn’t necessarily need a pass rusher, but they went best player available and landed Bradley Chubb.
It was only a few years ago that the Denver Broncos rode an elite defense to a Super Bowl victory. Their pass rush is something that stood out and now they are hoping Bradley Chubb can help them rebuild that magic.
Chubb is an elite prospect who can generate a ton of pressure on the quarterback. He plays with an edge and is always working. This non-stop motor is something that most of the top pass rushers possess.
Denver’s decision to select Chubb does mean that they are moving forward with Case Keenum at quarterback for the foreseeable future. That isn’t necessarily a poor choice, but it limits their overall options.
Despite their question marks, there are a lot of quarterbacks with the talent of Josh Allen or Josh Rosen in the draft every year.
Their decisions this offseason were obviously made to get themselves back into playoff contention in a hurry. Keenum isn’t the type of quarterback who can carry a franchise, so it will be important for Chubb and the rest of the defense to play at a high level.
Denver still has some work to do especially in the offensive backfield. The Broncos need an upgrade at the running back spot. Having a sound running game will be another important factor to Keenum’s success.
However, there is no reason to fault the Broncos for selecting Chubb. He’s a difference maker and someone capable of making an immediate impact.
