Oregon’s Justin Herbert is a rising 2019 NFL Draft quarterback prospect.

Justin Herbert features a tall build with solid bulk to his frame. He is one of the more interesting 2019 NFL Draft quarterback prospects based on his upside. His raw skill set makes speaks to the possibility of him developing into something special.

Herbert maintains a balanced base in the pocket and will tie his shoulders, eyes and feet together. This helps him deliver an accurate ball. He not only shows good overall accuracy, but understands proper placement.

His ability to work the back-shoulder throw will come in handy at the next level. Herbert can also deliver a nice deep ball. He can get proper loft that allows the receiver to run under the throw.

Herbert has a solid throwing arm, but the ball doesn’t exactly jump out of his hands. There isn’t a consistent zip as the ball arrives to his target. At times, his deep throws can be a little underthrown as well.

He has enough arm strength to succeed at the next level, but it can’t be considered elite.

Herbert has a bit of a hitch in his throwing motion. He has a loading/caulking motion as he locates his target. This elongates his release giving the defensive backs more time to react and the pass rush a better chance of registering a sack.

The hitch in his delivery is made worse by the fact that Herbert doesn’t make quick decisions. He will hesitate to release the football. Herbert needs to do a better job trusting his reads and getting the ball out of his hands.

Overall, this is a quarterback prospect who has the raw tools to be an effective NFL starter. He needs to clean up his throwing motion and add a little more zip to his throws. However, the accuracy he shows is something that NFL evaluators covet.
