The Carolina Panthers didn’t make a ton of offseason moves, but the ones they did make should have a major impact.

Cam Newton will head into the season with several new offensive weapons. Thing biggest take away from these additions is that the Panthers offense will feature more speed. Obviously, they are hoping this produces more big-plays.

The top newcomer is rookie receiver DJ Moore. He should see plenty of early action with the expectation that he brings more explosiveness to the offense.

Moore needs some work as a route runner, but his playmaking ability means that he can get involved in different ways. He is so creative with the ball in his hands that he looks like a running back in the open field.

Veteran Torrey Smith was also brought in to provide more speed on offense. He may be a 1-trick pony but that track is something that creates problems for a defense. Newton has had plenty of success with deep threats like Smith.

Rookie tight end Ian Thomas is an under the radar addition who could help ease Greg Olsen‘s workload. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Panthers run more two-tight end sets.

With Jonathan Stewart now in New York, the Panthers signed CJ Anderson to be their power runner. He will share carries with Christian McCaffrey and should get the bulk of the short-yardage touches.

The defense will see a new face along the interior of the line. Star Lotulelei is now in Buffalo and has been replaced by Dontari Poe. This is a small upgrade as Poe brings more in the pass rushing department.

Carolina’s secondary should see contributions from rookies Donte Jackson and Rashaan Gaulden. Jackson is a prime candidate to land the slot corner job.
