Philadelphia Eagles Offseason Review
By Jon Dove
The Philadelphia Eagles made some small roster adjustments in the hope that they can repeat as Super Bowl Champions.
It appears very likely that Carson Wentz will open the year as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. The only thing that could stand in his way is if the Eagles decide to take a cautious approach to his recover.
Obviously, it wouldn’t be too difficult to take it slow with reigning Super Bowl MVP able to step in to the starting role.
The quarterback situation will be something everyone keeps a close eye on during training camp. However, there are several new players in the mix who will also garner some attention. The biggest of those additions come on the defensive side of the ball.
Michael Bennett was brought in to provide more versatility along the defensive line. He’s someone who excels at both rushing the passer and stuffing the run. The veteran also brings tons of playoff and Super Bowl experience.
Philadelphia also took a flier on aging veteran Haloti Ngata. Even at age 34, he has the ability to clog the middle of the field.
Don’t sleep on rookie Josh Sweat who could get some work as a situational pass rusher. He has plenty of raw talent, but needs to work on his consistency. Sweat will benefit from working with a coach like Jim Schwartz and in room with plenty of veterans.
The offense made mostly lateral moves by replacing Torrey Smith with Mike Wallace and Trey Burton with Richard Rodgers.
However, rookie Dallas Goedert has a chance to make a major impact. He slipped into the 2nd round of the draft mainly because an injury kept him from working out through the draft process. This could be one of the more underrated moves of the offseason.
