The Buffalo Bills have done a great job adding high upside talent through the NFL Draft.
Their ability to find talent at different spots throughout the NFL Draft has the needle pointing up for the franchise. Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott have worked the process moving up and down the draft in order to find prospects who fit their system.
This past year’s draft is arguably the most important thanks to the trade up that landed quarterback Josh Allen.
Buffalo is putting a lot of eggs in Allen’s basket. It will be interesting to see how quickly he develops and when he actually gets on the field. The Bills and the rest of the league know just how important the quarterback position is to the overall success of a franchise.
Knowing what players on the current roster are being seen as long-term pieces will help with future moves. Roster building in the NFL is something that is a year-to-year strategy and takes careful planning.
A great example of this is what the Washington Redskins did with Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins several year’s back. They were aggressive in landing Griffin, but didn’t hesitate to select what they seen as a valuable piece in Cousins.
The decision to double dip at the quarterback spot helped ease the pain from Griffin’s fall from grace.
This slideshow identifies the top building blocks added by the Buffalo Bills in the past few drafts. These are players who have shown some promise or still have tons of upside.
