The Cleveland Browns negotiations with Baker Mayfield have come to and end as the No. 1 pick has signed his deal.

Baker Mayfield should be reporting the training camp very soon after signing a deal with the Cleveland Browns. The No. 1 overall pick has finally come to terms on a deal with over $32 million guaranteed and a $21 million signing bonus.

Getting Mayfield in camp is a good publicity move for the Browns. This is a franchise that’s trying to change it’s overall perception.

The Mayfield situation is a little unique because he isn’t expected to really compete for the starting quarterback spot. Cleveland traded away a 3rd round pick to bring in veteran Tyrod Taylor and he’s slated to be the starter for most of the year. .

Things look very different in Cleveland this year with the addition of several veteran pieces. They are hoping those moves turn in to wins. Those additions include: Jarvis Landry, Carlos Hyde, Damarious Randall, Travis Carrie, EJ Gaines and Terrance Mitchell.

The roster was further stocked with rookies such as Mayfield, Denzel Ward, Nick Chubb, Austin Corbett, Antonio Callaway and Chad Thomas.

The main takeaway is that the Browns have significantly increased the overall talent on the depth chart. This mix of veteran and younger players could also create some good competition. Cleveland isn’t ready to compete for a playoff spot, but things should be better than last year.

Mayfield’s development will be something monitored behind the scenes– especially if Taylor performs well. The Browns aren’t going to rush their young quarterback into action.

However, he’ll get an opportunity should the team struggle. The fact he is under contract and heading to camp will help if he’s needed to step into the lineup.
