The Seattle Seahawks gave offensive tackle Duane Brown the contract extension he never got with the Houston Texans.
Duane Brown was locked in a nasty contract negotiation with the Houston Texans. Their inability to strike a deal led to Brown being traded to the Seattle Seahawks. The two have now agreed to a reported 3-year $36.6 million extension.
This move solidifies the left tackle spot for the Seahawks. Brown is one of the better overall tackles in the league when healthy. However, he has had some health issues over the past few seasons.
Getting Brown locked up gives Seattle some offensive line stability. The rest of the unit is still a work in progress.
It’s expected that Ethan Pocic will play left guard, Justin Britt at center, DJ Fluker at right guard and Germain Ifedi at right tackle.
Seattle’s offensive line also has a lot more depth than in recent years. Rookie Jamarco Jones, Rees Odhiambo, George Fant and Willie Beavers all have the ability to contribute. Most of this group could push either Ifedi or Fluker for their starting jobs.
Over the past few seasons, the Seahawks offensive line has been a major issue. Their struggles have resulted in an inconsistent running attack and routinely has Russell Wilson running for his life.
The trade for Brown signaled that the Seahawks were finally serious about fixing this problem. They now have a veteran leader in Brown with several intriguing younger players.
It may take some time for this group to gel, but they now have players with enough talent to establish a solid unit. This group will be asked to breath new life into a ground game that will feature rookie running back Rashaad Penny.
