Dud: JoJo McIntosh, Washington

Overall it’s been an outstanding career at the University of Washington for JoJo McIntosh. However, when looking at some of his statistics, his game may not be one that translates all too well to the NFL.

The projected mid-round pick has recorded an impressive 207 career total tackles. However, over the course of the last two seasons, his numbers have dropped each season.

In his sophomore season of 2016 McIntosh recorded a career-high 67 total tackles with 2.5 of those coming for a loss as he helped guide Washington to the college football playoff. Ever since that 2016 season, McIntosh has yet to record a tackle for loss, his total tackle numbers have never been higher than 50, and he’s only defended a combined three passes the last two seasons.

There are serious questions about McIntosh’s coverage abilities, he has not shown even above average characteristics in either zone or man coverage. Despite four-year starter for the Washington Huskies, McIntosh only has 2 interceptions to his name.

Granted, Washington has a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball which may be contributing to this drop-off. however, McIntosh has not separated himself as a must obtain talent like some of the other safeties in this draft class. McIntosh is getting some buzz as a day 2 pick for the 2019 NFL draft, and if he tests well at the combine some team could fall in love with his measurables and roll the dice.

Realistically, McIntosh has a lot of growing to do in his coverage skills before any defensive coordinator should feel comfortable with McIntosh seeing regular snaps.
