Josh Gordon is stepping away from football, and that leaves the New England Patriots with a void to fill at wide receiver. Here are three prospects from the draft that fit in New England.

The rollercoaster ride that is Josh Gordon’s NFL career may have finally come off the tracks. Gordon announced via Twitter that he would be stepping away from football to focus on his mental health.

The former Cleveland Brown has struggled with substance abuse throughout his NFL career. Shortly after his twitter announcement, NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero tweeted that Gordon was facing an indefinite suspension. This is very likely the end of Josh Gordon’s career as an NFL football player.

This leaves the playoff-bound Patriots with a hole on their roster that they will look to fill this offseason. Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski are not getting any younger, while Cordarelle Patterson and Chris Hogan are approaching free agency. Luckily for the Patriots, there are several wide receivers who may be good fits in New England.

The New England Patriots will always be contenders with the duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady steering the franchise. However, the Patriots will need to restock the team with some offensive playmakers if they want to see Brady hoist the Lombardi one more time before the end of his illustrious career.

Belichick and Brady have transformed unheralded wide receivers into household names throughout their careers, but they may aim to take a more developed talent this time around.

Here are three wide receivers from the NFL draft who could be playing in New England next year.
