Draft Needs: QB, OT, CB, WR

The New York Giants are suffering yet another down year. For the sixth time in seven seasons, the Giants will miss the playoffs in 2018 despite a late-season push that saw them beat the NFC North Champion Chicago Bears.

In 2017 the team went 3-13, last in the NFC East and earning the 2nd over pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The 2018 season has been an improvement as they have won five games but, there’s still a lot of work to do.

Looking ahead to the NFL draft the Giants must find Eli Manning’s replacement. Numbers show Manning hasn’t been as bad as advertised as he has had his most accurate passing season of his career in 2018. However, at 37 and no true ability to get out of the pocket, it’s time to find his replacement.

Look for Oregon’s Justin Herbert and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins to be big time options for the Giants. However, both players are underclassmen and may not declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Giants also need to find help up front. The Giants signed left tackle Nate Solder to a lucrative deal during the 2018 NFL offseason, and rookie guard Will Hernandez has looked capable. Despite those additions, the Giants would be wise to look to add depth and try to upgrade their starters.

The Giants traded away Eli Apple; thus, their number two corner behind Janoris Jenkins is now B.W. Webb who will be a free agent at seasons end. The Giants need to find someone who will mold into a number two corner, so this could be their second or third round selection.

As for the wide receiver position the Giants have Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Sheppard but, all of the Giants successful super bowl teams have had a trio of good receivers. Most recently in 2012 with Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, and Mario Manningham. The Giants haven’t found that number three receiver in the free agent market; thus, it’s time to turn to the draft.

There’s a lot of work to do for the Giants, and luckily they have plenty of picks to work with in the 2019 NFL Draft.
