Dallas Cowboys

Draft Needs: TE, WR, DT, SS

Despite an up and down season, it looks like it will be the Cowboys who end up 2018 NFC East champions. However, they don’t seem to be a super bowl bound team leaving room for improvement in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Dallas’s biggest need is still the tight end position. The Cowboys haven’t come close to finding a Jason Witten replacement, and they need to do so in this draft.

They traded their first-round pick to get Amari Cooper, which means the draft premier tight end Noah Fant will likely be out of reach for America’s team. The good news is Alabama’s Irv Smith Jr or Kentucky’s CJ Conrad could be an upgrade for the Cowboys available on day 2 of the draft.

Another position of need will be wide receiver. Dallas gave up a first rounder for Amari Cooper, but it is no lock Cooper returns as he is a free agent. Even if Cooper does return the Cowboys need a reliable number two receiver to pair with him; thus, look for them to get a wide receiver with one of their early picks.

The defense has been brilliant for Dallas in 2018, but there are some holes up front as Antwaun Woods will be a free agent after the season, and Maliek Collins will be a free agent in 2020. A player to watch may be Clemson’s Dexter Lawrence, whose draft stock may be slipping after a failed drug test. Lawrence would be a value pick for Dallas on day 2 if he can avoid any further off the field issues.

The Cowboys also need help at strong safety as Jeff Heath has had his struggles. A player like Mississipi State’s Johnathan Abram could add a physical presence to the Dallas defense.

Look for Dallas to work hard to fill these holes as Jerry Jones always has high expectations for his Dallas Cowboys.
