2019 NFL Draft Scouting Report: TE Noah Fant
By Grant Tuttle
- Fundamentals in blocking
In the modern NFL, many think of tight ends as receivers only; However, tight ends have other responsibilities. Fant is a willing blocker and can often overpower smaller defenders. That being said, he does not have great form and can get beat because of it. While the strength is there, Fant must be careful about not having his pads too high. Along with this, he must learn to use his hands to his advantage.
- Fundamentals in catching
While Fant can hit homeruns with his downfield speed, he can struggle with the easy plays. Often times, he drops passes within five yards of the line of scrimmage. His catching ability is not polished and may be his biggest struggle going forward.
- Ability to be a traditional tight end
There are not many knocks on Noah Fant. To me, this really isn’t even much of a weakness. He is simply not equipped to always play well in a traditional tight end role. A lot of his ability depends on spreading out wide and being used in a variety of different ways. I cannot envision Fant working in a way that he is not allowed to be a hybrid time player.
