Potential top-10 pick Montez Sweat has heart condition

Predicted Top 10 pick Montez Sweat has an undisclosed heart condition that could potentially change his rising draft stock.
One of the top edge rushing prospects for the 2019 NFL draft, Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat, has an undisclosed heart condition that NFL teams were already aware of before the 2019 combine, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Team doctors took an extra long look at Sweat during his medicals at the combine because of his pre-existing condition, one his agents wouldn’t reveal because of sensitive privacy issues.
Sweat had one of the most dominant Combine performances in recent history for a defensive lineman. He measured in at 6-6, 260 pounds and ran an insane 4.41 40-yard dash. It’s the best time ever recorded for a player at his position.
No player’s draft stock has enjoyed a greater increase since the Combine since Sweat, who before the event was considered a mid-to-late first-rounder; now he’s being mocked as high as the top five.
How Sweat’s medicals will impact his projection with about six weeks to go in the draft process is anyone’s guess, but this certainly will give draft analysts pause before assuming he’ll be a top-10 selection. If he has a draft-day fall, this will be why.
Sweat’s appeared in 26 games for Mississippi State over the last two seasons, registering 23.5 sacks over 30 tackles for loss.
Assuming Sweat’s health condition isn’t serious enough to impact his career, he’ll be very much in play for the Raiders at No. 4, Giants at No. 6 and Lions and No. 8.
