Round 4, Pick 104: Renell Wren | DL | Arizona State

Rennell Wren is one of the tougher evaluations in 2019 because of his flashes of dominance followed by periods of invisibility. But when he’s good? He’s really good.

Wren had 43 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 2018, which isn’t eye-popping production, but his explosive first step was a handful for opposing offensive lines. Assuming he can be coached up and play with more consistency, he could be an absolute steal (especially if he ends up coming off the board in this range.).

The 49ers can roll the dice on a guy like Wren because of the established defensive linemen already on the roster. Wren can begin his career as a rotational backup, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up being too disruptive to keep on the bench.
