Round 6, Pick 196: Carl Granderson | EDGE | Wyoming

The Jets passed on one of the premier edge rushers in the first round of this mock draft, choosing to go with Florida OT Jawaan Taylor instead of a prospect like Kentucky’s Josh Allen or Missippi State’s Montez Sweat. But they won’t ignore the position altogether, and Wyoming’s Granderson is a solid developmental prospect worth taking a shot on here toward the end of Day 3.

Granderson finished 2018 with three sacks, a big dropoff from 2017 when he had an impressive 8.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Still, he ran a 4.79 40-yard dash at 6-5 and 254 pounds. He’s a one-trick pony (pass-rusher only) right now and needs to develop more strenth at the point of attack to hold up in the run game, but he’d provide the Jets with another player with upside to play at oustide linebacker in training camp and the preseason.
