Round 1, Pick 24: Amani Oruwariye | CB | Penn State

The 2019 NFL draft is short on cornerbacks and if the Raiders want to improve their secondary, they’ll have to strike early on a cornerback like Oruwariye. The 6-2, 205-pound Nittany Lion is flying up the board and had a strong NFL combine (4.47 40-yard dash) to match his already impressive tape.

Oruwariye is a versatile defensive back who isn’t going to rely on a system or scheme to be successful. He’s solid against the run and has the kind of size and strength to re-route defenders when lining up in press coverage. He’s a defensive back coach’s ideal prospect.

The Raiders’ current depth chart consists of former first-round pick Gareon Conley and Nick Nelson as starters at cornerback. Translation? The position needs an upgrade. Oruwariye makes a lot of sense.
