player. 31. . QB. Ohio State. Dwayne Haskins. 6

Do I love Haskins to the Giants here? No. Does it almost have to happen for the organization to save face with its fan base? Yes. There’s a really good chance New York won’t have a need for a young quarterback come draft weekend — cough, Josh Rosen, cough — but we can only run this mock draft based on what we know right now. Haskins has a big-league arm and can learn behind Eli Manning for the next year or two before becoming QB-next in the Big Apple.

. WR. Iowa State. Hakeem Butler. 7. player. 52

And here’s the first curveball of Round 1. Yes, Butler goes ahead of Ole Miss’ D.K. Metcalf and stuns the draft community as a top-10 pick. But take a step back for a minute; Butler is a crazy-talented prospect who has all of the traits required to be a dominant Alpha receiver in the NFL. He’s the next coming of Plaxico Burress. Guys that stand 6-5, weigh 227 pounds and run a 4.45 40-yard dash don’t come around very often. Combine that with his skilled ability as a route-runner, and you have a top-10 quality pick.

50. . EDGE. Michigan. Rashan Gary. 8. player

The former Michigan Wolverine won’t travel far for his NFL home. Gary is a boom-or-bust prospect in this year’s draft, not unlike soon-to-be former Lion, Ezekiel Ansah, was when he was a draft prospect in 2013. Gary has the ability to become a dominant edge presence if he just takes full advantage of his rare natural gifts. Those guys are always scary to draft in the top 10, but the Lions will swing for the fences here.

16. . OT. Florida State. Jawaan Taylor. 9. player

This year’s offensive tackle class has legitimate starters who will be pushed down the top 10 because of the priority given to edge defenders. And that’s a great thing for the Bills, who grab this year’s top tackle prospect in Taylor. Primarily a right tackle in college, Taylor has the athletic profile to play either side in the NFL and would be a plug-and-play starter for Buffalo in 2019.

10. player. 45. . QB. Missouri. Drew Lock

John Elway has had Lock’s name written in ink on the Broncos’ draft card since the Senior Bowl, and nothing’s happened since then to change his mind. Sure, he signed Joe Flacco to man the starting job in 2019 and, maybe, 2020, but that won’t stop him from selecting Lock, who if he can become a more consistently accurate passer, could be a poor man’s Matthew Stafford.
