Round 1, Pick 6: Dwayne Haskins | QB | Ohio State

I’ve been somewhat bearish on Haskins’ draft stock throughout the process so far, but I’m slowly warming up to his upside as an effective pocket passer in the NFL. I have major concerns about his stationary style of play and believe he’ll need an elite offensive line to maximize his ability as a pure passer, but he looked a lot more nimble than I expected during his pro day and his college tape didn’t provide enough evidence that he can’t sidestep pass-rushers when his pocket collapses.

Do I think he can do it? I’m not sold. But the Giants can’t afford to find out the hard way that he can; if he slides past New York and ends up with, say, the Redskins, and becomes a good NFL starting quarterback, the Giants will pay a heavy price for years to come.

As a result, they have to select Haskins here as the QB-next in New York. If for no other reason, the pick will be made out of fear; the Giants have to take a home-run swing on a potential franchise quarterback and Haskins is the only prospect with that kind of upside in this draft after Kyler Murray.
