2019 NFL Draft: Detroit Lions 7-round mock draft
By Bryan Perez
The Detroit Lions are entering Year 2 of the Matt Patricia era and need to hit big on their 2019 NFL draft class to take the next step in their rebuilding project.
The Detroit Lions will enter the 2019 NFL draft with nine picks and an opportunity to add a blue-chip player in the first round with the eighth overall selection. It’s expected they’ll spend their first-rounder on defense; specifically, a player who can get after the quarterback.
But there’s also a chance they’ll give QB Matthew Stafford a new weapon to throw to at tight end or even add a top-tier lineman in either Florida’s Jawaan Taylor or Alabama’s Jonah Williams.
The Lions are a wildcard draft slot at this point, so much so that GM Bob Quinn made it clear they’re even willing to trade out.
“I always like draft picks, so if we can move back a couple spots and pick up another pick,” Quinn told Ian Rapoport on the Rapsheet and Friends podcast. “I think the depth of this draft from the late first to the third, there’s a lot of really good players in there. If I could move back a few spots, add a great player and a pick, that’d be something that would be great. People out there listening, I’m open for business.”
Assuming the Lions keep the pick, here’s a potential seven-round haul.
