2019 NFL Draft: Detroit Lions 7-round mock draft
By Bryan Perez
Round 2, Pick 43: Rock Ya-Sin | CB | Temple
Rock Ya-Sin has been a steady riser up the draft board in recent weeks and there’s an outside chance he sneaks into the back half of the first round. But his true value is here in Round 2, and if he’s on the board when the Lions are on the clock, he’s a safe bet to be headed to Motown.
Ya-Sin measured in at 6-0, 192 at the NFL combine and recorded a 4.52 40-yard dash, a time that’s not exactly first-round cornerback speed, but he has the kind of man cover skills that will make him an enticing prospect for Detroit who needs to add more starting-quality talent to the secondary. Ya-Sin would make a nice running-mate to Darius Slay.
Round 3, Pick 88: Kahale Warring | TE | San Diego State
Call this a leap of faith pick. Kahale Warring doesn’t have much football experience and he started only two games in 2018, but his atheltic traits and overall upside make him an appealing best-is-yet-to-come prospect who, at this point in the draft, is worth swinging for the fences on.
Warring had 31 catches for 372 yards and three touchdowns in nine games played last season and flashed the ability to be a legitimate target in the NFL as a big-receiver type. His 4.67 40-yard dash and 36-inch vertical jump at the NFL combine confirmed his athleticism is very real.
The Lions signed Jesse James to man the starting role and have a logjam behind him with Michael Roberts and Logan Thomas, but none of the three have the playmaking upside that Warring would bring to the roster.
