Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins will visit with two quarterback-needy teams in advance of the 2019 NFL draft.

Every team in the NFL is allotted 30 pre-draft visits with prospects whom they want to gather more information on. And while it’s fun to speculate that a pre-draft visit means the team is interested in selecting the player they invite to their facility, it often is used for medical checks and additional information gathering.

But when a pre-draft visit is used on a quarterback, especially one who’s expected to be picked in the first round, it usually means something more.

The Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos will host Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins this week, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The visit will continue the speculation that both clubs are in the market for a first-round quarterback.

“Important week for Ohio State QB prospects Dwayne Haskins,” Rapoport tweeted. “Source said he’s got visits to the facilities of the Redskins and Broncos this week. Two teams doing homework on all the top passers.”

The Broncos have long been connected to Missouri’s Drew Lock. Their infatuation with the strong-armed gunslinger dates back before the Senior Bowl and hasn’t cooled all that much despite their trade for veteran Joe Flacco.

The Redskins, on the other hand, don’t appear to be circling around any particular prospect. Instead, they’re likely to grab the best remaining option on the board when they select with Pick No. 15. With all due respect to Colt McCoy and Case Keenum, they simply aren’t the answer at quarterback. And while Keenum could probably hold down the fort for 2019, the Redksins need hope for the future. Haskins (or Lock, or even Daniel Jones) would at least give them that.
