Round 2, Pick 45: Sean Bunting, CB, Central Michigan

Sticking with the theme of improving the pass defense, the Falcons select Central Michigan’s Sean Bunting in the second round. Bunting is a fast-riser up the draft board and he might, in fact, be one of the first few players selected on Day 2. But if he’s still hanging around at the 45th pick, expect Atlanta to pounce.

Bunting ran a 4.42 40-yard dash and impressed with a 41.5-inch vertical jump at the NFL combine. He has good size (6-0, 195 pounds) and good ball skills. It would mark the second straight year the Falcons select a cornerback in the second round (Isaiah Oliver, ’18), and would create more competition for reps alongside Desmond Trufant.

In order to compete with today’s NFL passing attacks, defenses need at least three capable cornerbacks on the field at all times. Bunting helps get Atlanta one step closer to that goal.
