4 potential surprises in the 1st round of the 2019 NFL draft

Jonah Williams gets selected in the first six picks
Don’t underestimate the value NFL teams place on reliable and predictable prospects at offensive tackle, especially ones who played at a high level in the SEC. Williams is that guy this year.
The popular choice among draft analysts to be the first offensive tackle selected is Florida’s Jawaan Taylor, and while he certainly has the tape and upside to be that guy, my gut tells me the Giants will take a long and hard look at Williams with the sixth overall pick. Their offensive line is in desperate need of a starting tackle, and Williams has the football character general manager Dave Gettleman loves.
This wouldn’t be a bad pick, either. Williams, for my money, is the best offensive lineman in this draft and will be a decade-long starter in the NFL. But with the draft narrative suggesting he’s more likely to come off the board between picks nine and 15, a Williams pick in the top six has a chance to be the first real curveball of the first round.
